2021-Kirth Kiln Charcoal in the Dandenongs

The Kirth Kiln was a World War Two factory to make fuel for gas producer cars, which
was built but hardly used. Preserved remains of the factory and a company village are
hidden in the forest near Gembrook. Come see the site and enjoy an easy ride of about
130 km on good roads with many curves, followed by lunch at the Ranges Hotel in
Gembrook.
Start at the Lilydale Departure Point; Shell Service Station on Maroondah Highway
1km east of Lilydale. 8.30 for 9.00 departure.
Morning Coffee at the Yellingbo Central Store on Healesville - Koo Wee Rup Road
about 10.00.
Visit the Kirth Kiln on Soldiers Road off the Gembrook Launching Place Road, about 2
km of good dirt road in each direction.
Lunch at the Ranges Hotel on the main street in Gembrook at 12.15 pm.
A short final ride to One Tree Hill Park at Ferny Creek for a total of 130 km.
